I tried the kanga pie (ground kangaroo) at Aussie Pie Guy food truck today and it was decent. The food truck was relatively new to the Vancouver food truck scene. Unlike a lot of the other trucks, they offered a long list of item selections with mostly meat pies (kangaroo, pork, beef, & chicken), a couple vegetarian/Vegan options, and a sweet one.
I wanted to have the full experience, and ordered the pie epic option which included mashed potato, peas and gravy. The pie was fluffy on outside, the inside was pretty light too for a meat pie. I had kangaroo burger before and I had found the kangaroo patty pretty mild. However ground kangaroo in the pie here was slightly gamier, but it tasted okay with the spices. The mash, peas and gravy all tasted decent, and complemented the pie well. I would come back to try other pies for sure, especially Aussie pie, which they just ran out, and I did not want to wait another 7 minutes.
I had not idea how authentic this was. Hopefully some fella Aussie foodie would kindly inform me. But the meat pies here surely tasted a lot lighter than they sounded.
