{"id":9056,"date":"2016-10-18T12:58:38","date_gmt":"2016-10-18T20:58:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/?p=9056"},"modified":"2016-10-24T15:31:17","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T23:31:17","slug":"first-vancouver-taco-crawl-vanfoodster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/first-vancouver-taco-crawl-vanfoodster\/","title":{"rendered":"The First Vancouver Taco Crawl by Vanfoodster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was invited by <a href=\"http:\/\/vancouverfoodster.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vanfoodster<\/a>\u00a0to check out his very first <a href=\"http:\/\/vancouverfoodster.com\/2016\/09\/29\/taco-crawl-around-vancouver\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vancouver Taco Crawl<\/a>. \u00a0During this taco extravaganza I was able to sample both traditional and non-traditional taco creations, and it turned out to be quite a fun evening. \u00a0Not to mention that, my friend and fellow blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vieamaggi.com\" target=\"_blank\">Maggi<\/a> was my crawl buddy, and we totally rocked this adventure.<\/p>\n<p>The format is\u00a0similar to the organizer&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/tastingplatesyvr.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tasting Plates<\/a> events, \u00a0in which food lovers\u00a0follow a map to find each participating restaurant and taste their\u00a0delicious food. However, while the\u00a0regular Tasting Plates events take place in a particular neighborhood, the participating restaurants for the taco crawls are\u00a0more spread out in the city. \u00a0So driving or car pooling is definitely recommended over taking public transit. \u00a0Also there are\u00a05 destinations and 8 unique taco creations, so it is\u00a0a lot of food!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dosa Hut &#8211; South Indian Taco Rocks!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the first stop we arrived at Dosa Hut. This South Indian restaurant in Sunset neighborhood offered a dosa taco for their signature entry, not quite the traditional taco from Mexico, but the concept is the same &#8211; it features a tortilla-like golden crispy pancake encasing scrumptious fillings. There were options of <strong>Chicken<\/strong> and <strong>Vegetarian Dosa Taco <\/strong>to choose from. I love the movie theatre theme with all the old Mexican movie posters on the wall. \u00a0 We were in a treat for\u00a0a <b>Pulled Pork Taco<\/b>\u00a0and a\u00a0<b>Mexican Zucchini Taco<\/b>. The pulled pork\u00a0was tender but still had\u00a0a good bite in the texture, which really makes it a \u00a0great taco that\u00a0you can take a big bite of and \u00a0feel the mouth full of meaty goodness. This Asian style tea house has\u00a0a high ceiling and spotless white brick walls, with very comfortable the seating. There is\u00a0a huge selection of\u00a0beverages and dessert treats. \u00a0Although not the quite the traditional taco, \u00a0the\u00a0delectable\u00a0Asian style sweet treats were\u00a0making the dessert lovers very happy. \u00a0We were offered a <strong>Bubble Waffle Taco<\/strong> with a scoop of their specialty ice cream as the filling. So Maggi offered to\u00a0buy me a tequlia shot at the next taco stop. Located near the Stadium area where there is always busy traffic of sport fans and concert-goers, Patron Tacos &amp; Cantina is the only one\u00a0in the restaurant bunch of the evening that has a liquor license. Although alcohol beverage was not included in the taco crawl ticket, I saw\u00a0many taco crawlers were pleased to be able to order a beer or a margarita to go with their\u00a0tacos.<\/p>\n<p>So we began with a couple shots of tequila. The <strong>Tequila <\/strong>was quite smooth, and what made it event more enjoyable was the <strong>Verde Chaser<\/strong>, made of pineapple, cilantro, mint, and jalape\u00f1o, which was quite a tasty drink by itself. Maggi was calling the whole experience a splendid one with a warming start and a refreshing finish. The <strong>Nopales Taco<\/strong> came with tender cactus leaves thinly sliced and cooked, and was a delightful treat for veggie lovers. But we have one more place to go! For the last taco stop, we found ourselves sitting side <strong>La Catrina<\/strong> on Denman street near English Bay. This is another vegetarian taco that rocks my socks. Being quite the carnivore myself, I never went for any vegetarian taco before tonight. But at 3 different taco joints, I get to experience how amazing Mexican cuisine is on cooking vegetables. The heartiness of the potatoes and the richness of the cream do provide a great level of comfort in my mouth.
