This year, the annual\u00a0BC Seafood Festival<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0will be held June 7 \u2013 16 in Comox Valley.\u00a0 The festival is the largest of Western Canada, very successful in the last 12 years, and a force to drive national, international, and regional awareness and recognition to the importance and diversity of BC coastal communities and their seafood industries. It will feature events and celebrations such as celebrity chef demonstrations, seafood tastings,\u00a0interactive cooking classes, and\u00a0competitions.<\/p>\n

I was invited to\u00a0 the festival’s Media & VIP launch event aboard the\u00a0Pacific Yacht<\/a>, and had a glimpse of what awesome eats and drinks the guest will be getting at the festival.<\/p>\n

The first bite was the Cucumber Wrapped Smoked Sablefish<\/strong>, with kelp and caviar cream., prepared by Chef Nigel McMeans<\/strong><\/em> from Blackfin Pub<\/a> in Comox, which is perfectly paired with the Pinot Gris from\u00a040 Knots Vineyard and Estate Winery<\/a>. Both the winery and the eatery are long-term participants of the festival.<\/p>\n

Talking about a spot-on surf & turf combo, Fanny Bay Oyster<\/a>‘s Executive Chef Andraza<\/strong> <\/em>prepared a silky smooth Manila Clam & Corn Chowder<\/strong>, topped with corn salsa and paprika oil, to pair with smoked pork belly with crackling skin.<\/p>\n

The beautiful Ceviche<\/strong> prepared by Executive Chef Ricardo Valverde<\/strong><\/em> from Ancora Waterfront Restaurant<\/a>, West Vancouver.<\/p>\n

The oyster shucking is always a must when you are going seafood theme on a yacht.\u00a0Gordy McLellan<\/strong><\/em> from Mac\u2019s Oysters<\/a> is showing some of the best BC oysters, and the little jewels of delight were paired with Unruly\u00a0Gin<\/strong> from\u00a0Wayward Distillation House<\/a>, a unique gin made from honey. I was also impressed with “KRUPNIK<\/strong>“, a spiced honey liqueur that’s unique and absolutely delicious.<\/p>\n

We also sampled the signature dish from Locals Restaurant<\/a> of Comox. Chef Ronald St. Pierre prepared us the Pan Seared Albacore Tuna<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
