{"id":14880,"date":"2018-07-13T17:02:05","date_gmt":"2018-07-14T00:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/?p=14880"},"modified":"2019-01-07T13:49:52","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T21:49:52","slug":"recap-tasting-plates-north-vancouver-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/recap-tasting-plates-north-vancouver-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Recap: Tasting Plates North Vancouver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I attended the latest\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tastingplatesyvr.com\/tasting-plates-north-vancouver-lonsdale\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tasting Plates North Vancouver<\/a>, another <strong>Vancouver Foodster<\/strong>\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tastingplatesyvr.com\/\">Tasting Plates Series<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that invited\u00a0many\u00a0to explore the foodie culture and restaurant scene in Lower Lonsdale neighbourhood.\u00a0 \u00a0 And we started the adventure at the Lonsdale Quay Market.<\/p>\n<p>Here are stops on our\u00a0tasty tour:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Butter Lane Bake Shop &amp; Tea House<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Cafe by Tao<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Coconama<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Welcome Parlour Ice Cream<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Alberello Pizzeria<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The closest stop from\u00a0our registration spot at the market was <a href=\"http:\/\/blbakeshop.ca\">Butter Lane Bakery &amp; Tea House<\/a>. They were offering their\u00a0signature sweet treats: the <strong>Earl Grey Donut,<\/strong> steeped with their own brew from Louise &amp; Louise Fine Teas, the <strong>Famous Scone<\/strong>, made with European churned butter, clotted cream and jam, and the <strong>Gluten-Free Carrot Cake<\/strong>, topped with a cream cheese buttercream. I found all those treats not overly sweet, letting the main flavouring ingredients really shine. We came to enjoy the cooking and learned about a plant-based meal<\/span><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">\u00a0isn&#8217;t always just a big salad. Their concept is simple: combining the finest chocolate, the best ingredients, and a creative fusion of global flavours, the produce fresh handmade chocolate creations that are indulgence at its purest.<\/p>\n<p>When we arrived, the owners and chocolatiers,\u00a0<em><strong>Takanori Chiwata<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Kayoko Hamamoto<\/strong><\/em> welcomed us and showed us how they have found the best quality raw chocolate in the world and incorporated<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">\u00a0unique flavours, from lush exotic fruit to fragrant spices, rich liquors, fine coffees and teas, and unique Japanese ingredients. The walnut in the Verde Noce was brilliant and satisfying a texture guy like me. And the home-made sausage was another highlight for me. We found ourselves at <a href=\"http:\/\/welcomeparlour.com\/\">Welcome Parlour Ice Cream<\/a>, the neighbourhood favourite. The ice cream parlour teamed up with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baddogbread.com\/\">Bad Dog Bread<\/a>, using their delicious cinnamon buns to present us a <strong>Cinnamon Bun Ice Cream Sandwich<\/strong>, which is quite ingenious. There was a gooeyness of the cinnamon bun that works perfectly well the creaminess of ice cream.
