Knows as Primitivo in Italy, the grape was introduced to the state in the 19th century. It was also one of the types that I have known the longest, since when I used to live in the Bay Area and worked as a restaurant server. Back then, white zinfandel is everyone&#8217;s beginner wine in Cali. And for red zinfandel, although it&#8217;s a light-bodied red like pinot noir, its moderate tannin and high acidity making it much bolder and<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, Helvetica Neue, sans-serif;\">\u00a0such a <\/span>versatile<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, Helvetica Neue, sans-serif;\">\u00a0wine to drink at all occasions.\u00a0 Recently I tasted some very nice zinfandel at <\/span><a style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/vancouver-international-wine-festival-presents-california-crush\/\">VIWF&#8217;s &#8220;California Crush&#8221;<\/a><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">\u00a0and my recent visit to <\/span><a style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\" href=\"http:\/\/clinecellars.com\/\">Cline Cellars<\/a><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, Helvetica Neue, sans-serif;\"> in Sonoma, then I discovered a very <\/span>unique<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, Segoe UI, Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, Helvetica Neue, sans-serif;\">\u00a0one at its launch party.\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.1000storieswines.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1000 Stories Wines<\/a>\u00a0has introduced their 2016 Bourbon Barrel Aged Zinfandel to Canadians.<\/p>\n<p>1000 Stories is a\u00a0small-lot winery from California utilizing Zinfandel as it&#8217;s one of the most flourishing grapes on Californian soil. The winemaker, Bob Blue knows a balanced wine can only come from a restrained approach to these intensely flavored barrels. He begins the aging process in traditional French and American oak wine barrels before transitioning lots to the bourbon barrels. This unique approach has brought interesting characters and elegantly bold flavors to the wine.<\/p>\n<p>The tasting took place at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.filson.com\/our-company\/store-locator\/vancouver-store\">Filson<\/a> in Gastown, and to pair with the bourbon barrel aged red wine, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peckinpahbbq.com\/\">Peckinpar<\/a> has brought in their BBQ pulled pork sandwich on corn bread. Intense red fruits are on the nose, with a hint of black pepper. The palate is full with ripe tannins, flavours of raspberry and cranberry, followed by a small tickling sensation of black peppercorn.
