{"id":11767,"date":"2017-06-30T15:04:59","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T23:04:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/?p=11767"},"modified":"2017-07-21T17:18:57","modified_gmt":"2017-07-22T01:18:57","slug":"recap-italian-top-chef-showcase-launch-gourmicious","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/recap-italian-top-chef-showcase-launch-gourmicious\/","title":{"rendered":"Recap: Italian Top Chef Showcase and The Launch of Gourmicious"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"gmail-p3\">The whole city of Vancouver was celebrating the <strong>Italian Heritage Month<\/strong> (IHM) in June. \u00a0The festivities had brought many together in experiencing and sharing Italian culture and heritage, and of course Italian food!<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\">I was honored to attend the <strong>Italian Top Chef Showcase<\/strong>, presented by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iccbc.com\/\">The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada-West<\/a>, in cooperation with the <em><strong>Consulate General of Italy<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0This superior Italian culinary experience was hosted at the Saffire Ballroom of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairmont.com\/pacific-rim-vancouver\/\">Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel<\/a>, featuring a 6-course dinner by\u00a0Top Vancouver chefs\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cioppinos.wordpress.com\/chef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pino Posteraro<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>Cioppino\u2019s<\/strong>)\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/chefangusan.com\/bio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Angus An<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Maenam<\/strong>, <strong>Longtail Kitchen<\/strong>, <strong>Fat Mao, Sen Pad Thai<\/strong>), and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fairmont.com\/pacific-rim-vancouver\/dining\/executive-chef\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Nathan Brown<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(<strong>Fairmount Pacific Rim<\/strong>), using authentic Italian products specifically selected and flown from Italy for the event!<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"gmail-p3\">Wine Reception<\/h3>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11805\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-6-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2070\" height=\"1476\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-6-4.jpg 2070w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-6-4-300x214.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-6-4-768x548.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-6-4-1024x730.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2070px) 100vw, 2070px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\">The event started with a wine reception with a <strong>Salumi &amp; Formaggi<\/strong> station, a mouth-watering\u00a0showcase of the finest Italian <strong>DOP<\/strong> &amp; <strong>IGP<\/strong> cheeses, cured meat delicacies and a variety of bread.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\">Such stunning Italian products represented <strong>The Extraordinary\u00a0Italian Taste campaign<\/strong>, supported by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry. It was the history of those authentic products, \u00a0centuries of efforts on calibrating to meet the finest taste, \u00a0that has achieved such quality on such beautiful and delicious foods!<\/p>\n<p <strong>Celso Boscariol, Q.C.<\/strong>, the president of I<strong>talian Chamber of Commerce in Canada West<\/strong>, and <strong>Massimiliano Iacchi<\/strong>, the <strong>Consul General of Showcase<\/h3>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\">Then the Top Chef Showcase started with Chef <strong>Angus An<\/strong>&#8216;s demonstration on his dish served at the dinner, the <strong>Albacore Tuna Crudo<\/strong>. Chef <strong>Pino Posterano<\/strong> was featured alongside with <strong>Tojo<\/strong> and <strong>Vij<\/strong> on the show. They were the pioneers of redefining culinary trends in Vancouver, introducing world\u00a0cuisines for which they were classically trained, but with a whole Northwest product-driven mentality that Vancouver shared with other big cities on the coast such as Seattle and San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\">I&#8217;m glad that Chef Pino has since picked up new friends along the way, such as Chef <strong>Angus An<\/strong>. Representing the new generation of the top chefs in Vancouver,  Chef An has embraced the same mentality and greatly contributed to the culinary trends.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\">Now Chef Pino is going back to his roots and representing the amazing products from his motherland. And his friend Chef An is also here today to help showcase the quality of the Italian products by using them in his own style of world cuisine, proving that there is no border and no limit when it comes to enjoying world class products made from traditions.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"gmail-p3\">The 6-course dinner<\/h3>\n<p><strong>1st Course<\/strong> by Chef <strong>Angus An<\/strong> was the <strong>Albacore Tuna Crudo<\/strong>, dressed with Hazelnuts Tonda Gentile di Piemonte (IGP), white anchovy, marinated celery, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (DOP). \u00a0 The hazelnuts had an incredible aroma and the quality of the olive oil was superb, which had brought one of the most subtle fish to such a vibrant dish.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11817\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-16-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1690\" height=\"1129\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-16-2.jpg 1690w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-16-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-16-2-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-16-2-1024x684.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1690px) 100vw, 1690px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"gmail-p3\"><strong>2nd Course<\/strong> by Chef <strong>Pino Posterano<\/strong> was the <strong>Heirloom Tomato and Garden Vegetable Crudaiola<\/strong>, featuring marinated diver scallops, Mozzarella di Bufala Campana (DOP) and Extra Virgin Olive Oil (DOP). The short rib was fork tender and loaded with a ton of flavours.
