The Chefs at CAVU Kitchen Bar <\/a><\/strong>(@Hilton Vancouver Airport<\/a>), Harold’s Bistro<\/a> <\/strong>(@Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel<\/a>) and\u00a0American Grille<\/a> <\/strong>(@Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel<\/a>), were all in for the Block BBQ Rib Cook-off<\/strong> on July 8th from 12 – 3 pm.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The cost to the general public was $10 for a quarter rack of ribs from each competitor and 100% of the funds raised went to The Richmond Hospital Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Each team prepared their ribs for judging and the public voted for their favourite.<\/p>\n

There were craft beer samples from various local breweries including\u00a0Granville Island Brewing<\/a>, Parallel 49 Brewing<\/a>, and The Parkside Brewery<\/a>. \u00a0A DJ was on-site\u00a0playing summer tunes for the BBQ party as well.<\/p>\n

Here are the contestants for the competition:<\/h3>\n

BBQ ribs from Harold’s<\/strong> <\/a>were prepared with special house rub and then slow cooked in broth.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The secret ingredient for CAVU Kitchen<\/strong><\/a>‘s BBQ ribs was cilantro honey!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

At American Grille<\/strong><\/a>‘s station, the BBQ ribs were\u00a0highlighted with ancho chili in the rub,\u00a0served with a\u00a0watermelon salad and an orzo salad.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Dawn Pilsner<\/strong><\/a> from the Parkside Brewery<\/strong> was recommended for pairing with the ribs from CAVU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

For American Grille<\/strong><\/a>‘s ribs, Parallel 49 Brewing<\/strong> offered a variety of beers including their signature\u00a0Craft Lager<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As diners had a blast at the BBQ rib cook-off, we definitely hope for more block parties coming to the Sheraton parking lot, which has made such a great venue for outdoor events in the summer.<\/p>\n

And the winner of the throwdown is (by merely 3 votes):<\/h3>\n

Harold’s Bistro + Bar<\/a>!<\/strong><\/p>\n

To me, they were equally good in delivering big\u00a0flavours, but Harold’s might have the edge of the slow cooking, which made the ribs a little more tender.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
