{"id":10989,"date":"2017-06-07T14:52:58","date_gmt":"2017-06-07T22:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/?p=10989"},"modified":"2017-06-07T15:15:48","modified_gmt":"2017-06-07T23:15:48","slug":"recap-tasting-plates-burnaby-heights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/recap-tasting-plates-burnaby-heights\/","title":{"rendered":"Recap: Tasting Plates Burnaby Heights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have just realised &#8220;Burnaby Heights&#8221; and &#8220;Vancouver Heights&#8221; both refer to the same area, although <strong>Vancouver Heights<\/strong>\u00a0is the more common term. \u00a0However since this prestigious residential neighbourhood is not in Vancouver, but in North Burnaby, bounded by Boundary Rd, Gamma Ave and Hastings St, with the north edge facing the Burrard Inlet and the North Shore mountains, the term &#8220;<strong>Burnaby Heights&#8221;<\/strong> sounds more accurate for its\u00a0location.<\/p>\n<p>Or, we can just all call it &#8220;<strong>The Heights<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Back then when I first moved to Vancouver almost 20 years ago, all I know about the Height was the enormous pasta dishes at <strong>Anton&#8217;s<\/strong> or the cheap movie dates at <strong>Dolphin Theatre<\/strong>. \u00a0As Dolphin was\u00a0no longer around and Anton&#8217;s has been somewhat reduced to a neighbourhood icon from a much bigger one back then, I was excited and ready to rediscover the area when I was invited to another adventure of Vancouver Foodster&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/tastingplatesyvr.com\/\">Tasting Plates Series<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Tasting Plates Burnaby Heights.<\/p>\n<p>There are 6 stops on our route of this tasty tour, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Caffe\u00a0Artigiano<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Romana<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Gray Olive<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>Glenburn Soda Fountain<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Broken Rice<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fortuna Bakery<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caffeartigiano.com\/\"><b>Caffe\u00a0Artigiano<\/b><\/a><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.ca\/maps\/place\/Caffe+Artigiano\/@49.2811964,-123.0085084,17z\/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x548670daadf0c88b:0xf448061cd198dab3!8m2!3d49.2811964!4d-123.0063197\">4359 Hastings St, Burnaby<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We started at Caffe Artigiano,where we were offered different\u00a0choices of coffee beverages such as Americano\u00a0and Latte. I enjoyed my lattes and\u00a0got the\u00a0caffeine boost needed for the 3-hour food adventure. Being on the east end of our tasting map, we ventured here on foot and it took us about 10 minutes from Artigiano.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_11151\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11151\" style=\"width: 2304px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-11151 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-10-7.jpg\" alt=\"Romana Restaurant\" width=\"2304\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-10-7.jpg 2304w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-10-7-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-10-7-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-10-7-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2304px) 100vw, 2304px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-11151\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Romana Restaurant<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It sounds like\u00a0they were\u00a0putting a great variety of foods on the tasting plate at Romana, including the <strong>Kalamari<\/strong>, <strong>Humus<\/strong>, <strong>Chicken Souvlaki,<\/strong> <strong>Spanakopita<\/strong> , <strong>Pizza<\/strong>, <strong>Meat Penne<\/strong> and <strong>Pork Schnitzel<\/strong>. Potatoes with Smoked Shallot Aioli<\/li>\n<li>Reuben Sliders House-made Corned Beef, Caramelized Onion, Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese, Russian Dressing<\/li>\n<li>Iced Lemon Tea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I loved the house made corned beef in the Reuben, as it was succulent and flavouful, as well as the crispy potatoes. And when I was having\u00a0coffee the next morning, they still all tasted heavenly.
