I took my date for pizza tasting for the Best Pizza Challenge<\/strong><\/a> at Megabite<\/a>\u00a0on Graville, but found out that\u00a0he didn’t eat beef. As he barely touched\u00a0the Philly steak pizza. I felt bad and suggested to go somewhere else for more food. Since neither of us was\u00a0too hungry, I suggested the new Nero Waffle Bar<\/strong>\u00a0on Seymour for some dessert.<\/p>\n

It was odd\u00a0carrying\u00a0this huge\u00a0box containing the rest of the pizza walking around downtown, and it was even more awkward when we arrived at Nero because it\u00a0was such a lovely place. It was tucked away but not too far from the busy Granville area with a\u00a0wood fence outdoor patio, a\u00a0desired\u00a0spot for summer hangout. The indoor space is much bigger than the one at their Robson location, but has\u00a0some interesting arrangements. The several\u00a0booths by the windows are spacious semi-secluded retreats great for special dates, while there are a few tables on the other\u00a0side along the open bar-kitchen area. I do admire their decision not to cram as many tables as possible.<\/p>\n

The L’ananas<\/strong> ($8.90) was assembled with\u00a0caramelized pineapple, vanilla ice cream, Malibu, cr\u00e8me anglaise and berry coulis. It is more like a small dessert sandwich with ice cream in the middle of on 2 original mini li\u00e8ge waffles, topped with a\u00a0slice of pineapple. Reminding me of\u00a0pina colada, the flavours were dancing cha-cha-cha in my mouth. \u00a0The toasted coconut crumbs were\u00a0a nice touch. The waffles were\u00a0light but still have a nice bite to ’em. \u00a0The piece of br\u00fbl\u00e9e pineapple could have been\u00a0a tad bit\u00a0thinner as less fiber will bring out more of\u00a0the lusciousness. However, the caramelized flavour was hitting the right spot for me and it was a fabulous\u00a0dish overall! <\/span><\/p>\n

The Orange Mousse<\/strong> ($7.90) features Brussels waffle, \u00a0fresh orange and dark Belgian chocolate mousse. The whole thing tasted\u00a0so much lighter than it looked and we devoured it within 5 minutes. The ingredients were\u00a0pretty simple and the flavours were straight forward, which we enjoyed a lot. However I\u00a0didn’t touch the orange garnish – although\u00a0I think\u00a0the dried citrus could add some tart and zesty fun to the dessert, \u00a0it would only work if it’s\u00a0finely sliced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For drinks, I also ordered the\u00a0Sweet Sublime<\/strong> ($11), a cocktail made of \u00a0long table distillery gin, rosemary, lime, meyer lemon and fever tree soda water. It was not very sweet but definitely sublime. I was loving the aroma and the citrusy flavour, which is similar what I get\u00a0from a Rosemary Gimlet. But if I have to pay $11, I would hope for\u00a0less ice so that the flavours would stay a little longer. And my\u00a0date enjoyed\u00a0his Latte<\/strong> ($4) as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

I definitely recommend the 2 waffle dessert creations that I tried here. \u00a0The Orange Mouse and the L’ananas are both delectable choices. And for the quality of food, the friendly service and such a charming\u00a0ambience, the price is\u00a0surprisingly\u00a0reasonable. I would come back for sure.<\/p>\n
