{"id":10716,"date":"2017-07-19T11:08:51","date_gmt":"2017-07-19T19:08:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/?p=10716"},"modified":"2017-07-19T11:08:51","modified_gmt":"2017-07-19T19:08:51","slug":"boy-knife-sunny-patio-lunch-richmond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/boy-knife-sunny-patio-lunch-richmond\/","title":{"rendered":"Boy with a Knife &#8211; Sunny Patio Lunch in Richmond"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although it was my first meal at <a href=\"http:\/\/boywithaknife.ca\/\"><strong>Boy with a Knife<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s restaurant \u00a0I had heard of the Catering Company long before and even had tried their food. \u00a0When they catered at the closing ceremony of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/chopstick-fest-preview-grand-dynasty-seafood-restaurant\/\"><strong>Chopstick Fest<\/strong><\/a> last year, I found their food creative and tasty, living up to their reputation of being one of the most sought after catering companies in Metro Vancouver.<\/p>\n<p>When my new friend, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/Lforlife_vancouver\/\">Louisa<\/a> suggested lunch at their Richmond outlet, <strong>Boy with a Knife Grill &amp; Deli<\/strong>, \u00a0I was excited.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-7-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10717\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-7-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2461\" height=\"1641\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-7-2.jpg 2461w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-7-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-7-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/FullSizeRender-7-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2461px) 100vw, 2461px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Walking through the front entrance, I was at the cafe\/deli part of the Grill &amp; Deli first, which looked pretty standard for a grab-and-go lunch joint in an industrial area.<\/p>\n<p>Once I arrived at the back of the house, I found myself in the middle of a modern restaurant space with open kitchen and high ceilings. It felt like a breath of fresh air.<\/p>\n<p>But what was even more refreshing was their sunny patio. Constructed with wood and\u00a0rustic details, the patio space is quite the oasis in\u00a0a sea of ugly office buildings and warehouses.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10723\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2890.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2304\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2890.jpg 2304w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2890-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2890-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2890-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2304px) 100vw, 2304px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was in awe of the size of Louisa&#8217;s bunless\u00a0<strong>Tuna Bacon Club<\/strong> ($16.5). \u00a0This is probably one of the best ways in which a piece of albacore could be presented &#8211; rare <a style=\"text-decoration:none; font-weight:normal; color:#000;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orderdiovan.com\/ \"> buy diovan in mexico city <\/a> seared, topped with bacon, and dressed with red onion relish, arugula, and tarragon aioli. \u00a0I would love to have this Albacore Steak for dinner, please!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11802\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1942\" height=\"1296\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-22.jpg 1942w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-22-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-22-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/FullSizeRender-22-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1942px) 100vw, 1942px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The server recommended the <strong>Miso Mushroom Swiss Burger<\/strong> ($15) as he thought it was salty and delicious. Yes, the miso was salty, but the\u00a0umami effect on the palate urged me to take another bite right after &#8211; exactly the same way how blue cheese works on a burger. \u00a0The rest of the ingredients also helped: butter lettuce for freshness, double swiss cheese for lusciousness to the texture, bacon for smokiness and a bit of crispy fun, and garlic + thyme saut\u00e9ed mushrooms for earthiness and a perfect touch for the balance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2895.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-10719\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2895.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2304\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2895.jpg 2304w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2895-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2895-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/IMG_2895-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2304px) 100vw, 2304px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Overall<\/h3>\n<p>I really\u00a0dig\u00a0the West Coast vibe of the restaurant space and the\u00a0sunny patio, which could be confusing in a good way &#8211; \u00a0are we\u00a0on Sunset Boulevard or are we in middle of an industrial jungle? \u00a0 Food wise, I admire the chef&#8217;s play on conventional pub fare with vibrant worldwide\u00a0flavours.
