The fish is already seasoned with salt and very little additional\u00a0seasoning is required. \u00a0Just pan sear the fillet a few minutes on both sides on a frying pan, and it will turn out delicious! When my friend <strong>Jessica<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCT1vgaB7lCPwnLi2frd8TgA\">Domo Is Craving<\/a>), a bride-to-be (congrats Jess!), asked me to show her how to cook something quick, simple and delicious for 2 people, I thought the pan-seared mackerel was easy enough, and I could help her build a simple meal with the mackerel and other Korean inspired ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>It is delightful to see okra always available at the Korean store. I really like the sweetness and the texture of okra, which go well with staple Korean ingredients like rice cakes\u00a0and kimchi.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cfM_Ti2RrcI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Here are the <strong>ingredients<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>salted mackerel fillet, 2 pc<\/li>\n<li>Korean rice cakes, \u00a0350 &#8211; 450g<\/li>\n<li>kimchi, half cup, finely\u00a0chopped<\/li>\n<li>okra, 10, sliced in halves<\/li>\n<li>green onion, 2, finely julienned<\/li>\n<li>ginger 2 tsp, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>garlic 2 cloves, finely chopped<\/li>\n<li>soy sauce, 1tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Korean soy bean paste, 1\/2 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>Korean Mirin (Japanese Mirin or Chinese cooking wine ) 1 tbsp<\/li>\n<li>cooking oil, 1 tbsp for blanching, 1\/2 tbsp for pan frying<\/li>\n<li>salt 1 tbsp for blanching<\/li>\n<li>black pepper, a pinch to taste (optional)<\/li>\n<li>lemon, 2 slices (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>steps<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>boil water (at least 1.5 litre) in a large frying pan or \u00a0a wok<\/li>\n<li>add salt and oil to the boiling water<\/li>\n<li>blanch okra for one minute (low heat), strain<\/li>\n<li>blanch rice cakes for one minute (medium heat), strain<\/li>\n<li>dry the pan and heat it on hight heat<\/li>\n<li>add cooking oil and ginger, and\u00a0stir-fry ginger for a minute<\/li>\n<li>add okra, rice cakes and garlic, \u00a0and stir-fry for 2 \u00a0minutes<\/li>\n<li>add soy sauce, soy bean paste and Mirin, and stir-fry for 1 minute<\/li>\n<li>add kimchi, and stir-fry for 1 minute<\/li>\n<li>add black pepper if needed<\/li>\n<li>add green onion and stir-fry for 1 minute<\/li>\n<li>place the stir-fry on a separate plate<\/li>\n<li>wash and dry the pan, put it on a high heat<\/li>\n<li>pan sear mackerel fillet 3 minutes on both sides<\/li>\n<li>plate the rice cakes and mackerel with lemon slices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10408\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10408\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10408\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FullSizeRender-35.jpg\" alt=\"Mackerel and Korean Rice Cakes \" width=\"600\" height=\"401\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FullSizeRender-35.jpg 1900w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FullSizeRender-35-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FullSizeRender-35-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/FullSizeRender-35-1024x684.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10408\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mackerel and Korean Rice Cakes<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hope you guys enjoy my first cooking video, and please let me know if you have any comment or suggestion.
