{"id":10322,"date":"2017-02-13T22:50:13","date_gmt":"2017-02-14T06:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/?p=10322"},"modified":"2017-05-06T22:35:03","modified_gmt":"2017-05-07T06:35:03","slug":"little-saigon-yaletown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/little-saigon-yaletown\/","title":{"rendered":"Little Saigon in Yaletown"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I came to find out about <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.littlesaigon.ca\/\"> Little Saigon<\/a><\/strong> from my friend Areta\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/foodgressing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Foodgressing<\/a>) and her picture on the restaurant&#8217;s salad roll. At the time I had only seen a Vietnamese salad roll wrapped like this at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/anh-chi-making-vietnamese\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anh and Chi\u00a0<\/a>.\u00a0I thought they must be a step up from the average pho joints in the city and a new addition to the list of high-end Vietnamese restaurants in the city.<\/p>\n<p>But when I found myself sitting down with Food Wench at Little Saigon after our happy hour meet, I found the restaurant quite small and cozy.\u00a0 There was a beautiful mural\u00a0of a lady in a red painted on the back wall and the front counter, elevating the place with a touch of class and culture. However, the place seemed a bit cramped as the dining room was fully filled with diners.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10323\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10323\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FullSizeRender-2-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10323\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FullSizeRender-2-7.jpg\" alt=\"Little Saigon, Yaletown\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FullSizeRender-2-7.jpg 2030w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FullSizeRender-2-7-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FullSizeRender-2-7-768x513.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pickydiners.com\/www\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FullSizeRender-2-7-1024x684.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10323\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Little Saigon, Yaletown<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Naturally,\u00a0I ordered the <strong>Grill Chicken Salad Roll<\/strong> ($9.50), the dish that got my attention on Instagram, so that I could find out if\u00a0it would taste\u00a0as good as it looks. \u00a0The grilled chicken was very flavourful in the salad roll. We didn&#8217;t even need the dipping sauce that came with the dish. I did find it a little odd to have some roasted whole peanuts in the sauce. This is definitely a first at a Vietnamese place. I have to say I&#8217;m not a big fan of such system. If you want people to think you&#8217;re a classier restaurant, why would you make them try to figure out through so many variables and calculate the price themselves? It was a good bowl of pho. The broth was light and delicate with no trace of MSG, and the thinly sliced beef was fresh and tender. The salad roll tasted just as good as it looked. The pho broth was definitely above average.
