Thaidal Zone Restaurant is right by the ferry terminal in Powell River. We have been passing it by almost every year when we took the ferry to Texada. The place is always clean and bright inside. The dinner entrees are mostly over $16.95 which seem a little expensive compared to a typical Thai restaurant in Vancouver. But they have a great selections of lunch specials for $11.50 + Tax. The lunch specials come with rice, soup, and spring roll.
Quite a few of us ordered Gaieng Daeng, a red thai curry with coconut milk dish, and the rest ordered Pad Thai. There is no fancy plating with hardly any garnishes. Meats and vegetables are roughly cut or diced in inconsistent sizes. Although the dishes appear underwhelming, they taste much better than they looked. I felt like being at an old Thai grandma’s house for a humble and delicious dinner. And the portion is big as if grandma is always making sure everyone has more than enough food!
